Soham Mallick
Curator’s note: We open Opus #5 with Soham Mallick’s interpretive score, Impulse, for the theme ‘Capriccio’. In Western classical music, Capriccio refers to a lively and free-form composition, often embodying a playful spirit. Impulse’s rock ‘n roll themed score aligns with the essence of Capriccio through its energetic and dynamic quality. It intertwines the raw, electrifying elements of rock ‘n roll with the whimsical charm of an uptempo dramedy. Much like a Capriccio can shift from lively humour to more introspective or dramatic moments, this soundtrack amplifies both the humour and drama of its musical narrative with spirited rock instrumentation. The vibrant ensemble of drums, acoustic and electric guitars, piano and bass guitar mirrors the spontaneous nature of a Capriccio composition and sets the tone for this Opus hoping to offer a dynamic visual experience that reflects creativity, spontaneity, and the joyous exploration of contrasting themes and emotions.
